Papaphone New E.P – isn’t it Wonderful ?

Papaphone started back in Hertfordshire Music College when Russell Perkins and Thomas Hammond shared a mutual interest in creating emotive  uplifting and well written songs. They began playing music together  focussing on the love of creating something special rather than playing the latest fads. Not being influenced by a musical style  they just did what came naturally.

Papaphone began to write from the heart and brought together a mix of melody  sincerity and warmth. Writing and playing around the local area , Papaphone built up a strong loyal fan base with their live performances earning them more nationwide publicity and gig offerings. Highlights include headlining the Camden Barfly in London to a record number of people for an unsigned act at the time and winning Battle of the Bands at The Horn  St Albans out of over 90 entrants.

Headlining venues around the UK including the infamous 100 Club  Oxford Street , London and The Roadhouse in Manchester along with a live interview on BBC Radio.  Papaphone then played The Waterfront in Norwich and earned the praise of being named one of the UKs best new acts by The Observer newspaper.

In 2015  Papaphone released their first real album “Songs I Wrote” to critical acclaim amongst the folk community. Papaphone also gained some famous names as fans  including Shane McGowan and The Levellers.

A UK summer tour followed the album release with highlights including headlining Mr Wolfs in Bristol and appearing at the Sidmouth Folk Festival. The first song and video released from the upcoming record  ‘Isn’t It Wonderful?’ , ‘Lioness’ was played on BBC Introducing and described as ‘A beautiful song’ by Mr Gareth Lloyd.

The brand new E.P “Isn’t it wonderful” will be released on 14 November 2016 with worldwide distribution from Universal Music Operations and featuring the single ” Lioness” which was premiered on the exclusive trending music video site

Rapper 50 Cent has been hit with another copyright infringement lawsuit over his TV show Power.

Rapper 50 Cent has been hit with another copyright infringement lawsuit over his TV show Power.

Aspiring TV writers R. Byron Hord and Curtis Scoon have filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court against the hip-hop star, who produces and features in the crime drama, as well as cable network Starz and parent company CBS.

They claim the idea for Power was taken from their pilot script for a TV show called Dangerous, which they wrote in late 2009, about “an African-American Protagonist’s work as a drug dealer and subsequent attempts to launder his money and then ‘go legit,'” while maintaining relationship with an Irish gangster pal and a girlfriend who wants him to remain crooked.

According to the writers, they shopped the script around and met with 50 Cent in 2011 about developing the show. However, he never reached out but they claim he “willfully and improperly began developing, producing and filming their own television show” which is “substantially similar” to their original pilot.

50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, and network executives face up to $180,000 (£139,000) in fines per episode, of which there have been 27.

“We were just made aware of this filing and we are looking into this matter,” CBS spokesman said to New York Post gossip column Page Six. “It is too premature for comment at this time.”

This isn’t the first time the rapper has been accused of copyright infringement with Power. He was hit with a lawsuit last year (15) by author Larry Johnson who accused him of copying his novel Tribulation of a Ghetto Kid and turning the story into the show. He sought $200 million (£154 million).

Earlier this month (Sep16) 50 Cent was accused of infringement again for his upcoming superhero TV series Tomorrow, Today. Officials at JourStarr Publications claimed the plot is lifted from their 2016 release Othello Greene: The Story Begins, written by Anthony Baltimore. They issued a cease and desist letter to executives at Starz, warning they would file a lawsuit if they didn’t shut down production.

“Beauty of style and harmony and grace and good rhythm depend on simplicity.” – Plato

It’s this philosophy of keeping things simple that makes the music produced by Cape Town band Stone Jets, fresh and unique, but also relatable. Their latest animated music video ‘Something Good’ reflects this perfectly as well with its quirky, simplistic animation.

Watch ‘Something Good’ music video here:

The animated video was done by talented film student, Leah Blem.

The band, with Manfred Klose on guitars and Given Nkanyane on vocals and bass and Johan Pretorius on drums, describe their music as “Afro pop rock”, but, as is the case with many musicians, their sound has evolved as they have.

On the inspiration for this music video, frontman Given explains, “The war between the mind and heart inspires will. The will to choose a side and find peace. To call it a battle would be insane, it is just something good”.

‘Something Good’ can currently be heard playing on various national and local stations including Radio Sonder Grense, Groot FM, Radio Laeveld, SFM Streek, Kosmos Stereo, Maties FM, Kovsie FM, and UCT radio among others.

Stone Jets are jet-setting on a trajectory to becoming one of South Africa’s most beloved acts. In the meantime fans can get ready to experience their Cape Town EP launch next month.

More details on this to be released soon.
